Everybody in the tech arena expected Apple's event to be all about the new iPad mini. But, as it turns out, that the Cupertino-based company had a surprise for us with the latest generation (fourth generation) iPad- iOS-running tablet.
The iPad 4 comes with the new A6X chipset, which sports twice the CPU and GPU power of the old A5X chipset the iPad 3 used. It also packs the new 'Lightning connector'. The new iPad 4 LTE version has also been updated to support the Sprint network in the US, among others.
Other than that, the Apple iPad 4 is identical to its predecessor, which was announced at the start of the year. Sporting the same 10 hour battery life and 1536 x 2048 pixel display as the iPad 3, the iPad 4 base version will cost the same $499. The LTE-enabled units start at $629.
The iPad 2 will also stick around - it will retail, starting at $399 now. Shipping of the Apple iPad 4 Wi-Fi units starts on November 2, with the LTE-packing ones coming two weeks later.
(But here's some other good news) According to CNET, some of the Apple Stores will replace your third generation model with a fourth generation one if you purchased it in the last 30-days. Unfortunately, this is not a company-wide policy so not every store is doing this right now but Apple Stores are generally very good when it comes to customer service so you should definitely go try your luck.
