Keen on making 'CES 2013' the most interesting and profitable expo till date, Chinese multi-national company- 'Huawei' made its most important announcement on the very first day of the show, as they revealed their first ever smartphone running on Windows Phone 8, called the 'Ascend W1'.
The Ascend W1 brings to the Windows range of phones a whole new array of features and supposedly at an incredible price. The Ascend W1 is built around a 4" WVGA (480 x 800) IPS LCD screen and has a profile that is just '10.5 mm' thick. Huawei also managed to throw in a snappy dual-core 1.2 GHz Krait processor and an Adreno 305 GPU. Alongside that they have also added a 5 MP camera with 720p video recording.
The 4" screen reportedly uses full lamination technology that should help enhance outdoor visibility.
The Huawei Ascend W1 is expected to hit China and Russia this month while Western Europe, Middle East and USA should be expecting it sometime later. We haven't figured out the price yet, but we assure you that it will be priced much lower than an HTC Windows Phone 8S or even the Lumia 920.
Huawei also bragged about the W1's extra long battery life, claiming 470 hours of stand-by. The Ascend W1 apparently utilizes a power saving technology that saves 30% power consumption, letting the 1950 mAh battery last longer than it normally should.
The Huawei Ascend W1 will be available in blue, red, black and white. We cannot overlook the resemblance between the Ascend W1 and recent offerings by HTC but, "colorful" and "fresh" seems to be the Windows Phone 8 thing these days.
